Race Night
We're holding a Race Night at the club on Saturday 23rd February, 2008. It starts at 5.30, so players can stay on after football and still have time to go out later in the evening. Horses are being sold in advance by team captains, for £5 each, with star prize and cash prize races.
Desperately seeking a chairman
The JFSC Committee will be without a chairman as of May, when Tim Glynne-Jones will stand down after five and a half years in the post. If you care about the future of the club, and feel you could offer something positive, whether you're involved with John Fisher Football, Cricket or Hamsey Rangers, please inform Gill behind the bar.
Cricket AGM Jan 2007
Committee Members present: John McCarthy (Chairman)
Roger Lees (Treasurer), Ian Frisby (League Rep), Everton Thompson (Development Officer)
Committee members were introduced by JM and apologies were read out from members unable to attend. There were 25 present at the meeting.
Committee members were all re elected for the next season.
Ian Frisby gave his report on matters relating to the league. He said that the league had new sponsors and will now be known as The AJ Sports Surrey Cricket League. Ian discussed at length the benefits of the new sponsor for all clubs and their members.
There will be 5 divs with JF in Div 2 and Div 4.
Start times. Matches will again start at 1.30 and we must be on time. Any clubs 45 mins late or more will forfeit the match and be fined £150.00
ET said he would like players to be at the ground at least 45 mins before start. They can warm up properly and return to the changing room for a team talk and go on to the pitch as a team behind the skipper. Its looks professional and a lot better than waiting for players to turn up with a few minutes to go before the start.
ECB acting in the interest of the younger players will require in the not too distant future all officials of clubs to be CRB checked. It was pointed out that a couple of us already were checked and GE could arrange for others to be checked with no charge.
Roger Lees discussed his concerns about last years budget but recognised we are in a transitional period having lost the income from Purley CC and started another team ourselves.
Annual fees will re_top at £65.00 and £30.00 for students and weekly match fees at £8.00 and £4.00.
Players were requested to pay annual fees by the start of the season. ET said he would start collecting from players on a weekly basis if necessary at nets. The end of May would be a deadline and a no pay no play policy would come into force.
Skippers would pay in weekly match fees to Gill who would keep records of payers and non payers and hand over cash to RL on a regular basis.
Social events and fund raisers must be well attended to ensure we meet the seasons budget.
Last seasons presentation evening was, although enjoyable, a financial disaster when so many players who said they would come did not turn up. Loss of ticket revenue and wasted food. All future events will be by tickets sold in advance.
JM explained that there were 16 teams in both our divisions this season and there would only be one blank week per team during the season. A lot better than last year, when there were 3. A friendly would be arranged for the vacant week if necessary.
We have kept the 1st 2 weeks in May clear for pre season friendly matches or inter team practice/trial matches.
Indoor net practice will start this coming Sunday the 14th Jan at St Dunstans College, Catford as last year. Every Sunday until Easter from 6pm until 9pm.
We have an agreement with the local Waitrose to sponser us for £1500.00 for practice facilities in return for some advertising at the ground.
We are also waiting for a reply following a request for a substantial grant from the Lords Taverners in respect of practice facilities at the club. It was hoped that there would be a net of some description at the club by the new season. Important for practice and to warm up before matches.
Team Captains and V Captains were elected.
Sunday: John McCarthy and John Sullivan. No Change.
Sat Is: Everton Thomson and Granville Thompson.
Sat IIs: With Gary Turner leaving for Dubai in the early summer and unlikely to play, Geoff Green agreed to carry on as skipper and to elect a V Capt nearer the start of the season.
Last years captains gave brief reports of their seasons and thanked the players for their support.
JM said that the Sunday tour will be on as usual at the end of May, 25th - 28th. £100.00 approx B&B. Everybody welcome.
Hand books and fixture cards will be ready soon.
ET mentioned the Fun Day will be 8th July with the County Colts defending their 20 /20 title. More details to follow.
AOB. The matter of a 2nd Sunday side was discussed to use vacant weeks at the ground. It was decided this would be a good idea, there were enough players interested and Holland Jarratt agreed to organise it.
The meeting closed at 10.30pm.
